The Modern Knight

Customer service is one of the most under rated positions. It is an art form, one in which you must be flexible, resilient and a little fool hardy. One must become a master at multi-tasking, and wear many masks within a single shift.

Customer service workers are steadfast pillars in our community, and in a way, have become a sort of modern knight.

On a daily basis, they are given a series of tasks and challenges to complete. This could include helping and greeting a kindly local, delving deep into the narrow back rooms to find hidden items, or dealing with various monsters.

However, they lack one ability – to slay the monsters. So they must use clever methods to outsmart, or in many more cases, out stubborn the beasts.

Their minds are their weapon, and their strength of will determines its effectiveness.

Monsters have also grown clever, learning new ways of creating problems for the knights to solve. Not all of them have perhaps learned this, but enough have to keep things interesting.

So where is the knights horse and mansion? Their applause and praise?

They are there to help provide for the community in times of hardship, in times of celebration and all the days between.

So the next time you see your local modern knight, don’t forget to thank them. Many may only give a smile or a nod, but know it is heard and appreciated. And when those words are accompanied with gifts? All the better.

And don’t forget – when you need something, its them you turn to. What’s that phrase?

Don’t slap the hand that reaches to help you?

Eh. Close enough.
